Wearside League: Key men Randall and Cook suspended for crunch Silksworth clash with Richmond Town

Centre-half Dean Randall, who has excelled this season, and livewire midfielder James Cook are both suspended for the meeting of fourth and third in the table at Silksworth Welfare Park (2.30pm).

Manager Andy Stobbart will have to combat their absences, however Michael McVay returns along with Andrew Donnelly and possibly leading scorer Stephen Moody, who was rested last week because of his groin strain.

Definitely out is David Stevens, who was carried off in the closing minutes last week with a knee injury.

Silksworth have scored eight goals in their last two games, while keeping clean sheets. Richmond will be a big test, though, having won 4-0 at Boldon CA in midweek to follow a 10-0 trouncing of Ashbrooke Belford House last week.

That scoreline did not come as any surprise to secretary David Steele, who remarked: “You usually find when teams travel considerable distances away, they tend to go under strength as results have shown over the seasons, however, you can’t take that away from that achievement they are a very good team.”

Richmond Town miss centre-half Sam Grainger and forward Colin Anderson due to a stag do.

Utility player Lee White is also missing due to work commitments, but Connor Lyon and Kalumn Holbrook both return after holidays.

Ashbrooke Belford House have a number of players returning to the squad for their game at Seaham Red Star Reserves.

Shaun Fisk, Kyle Sumner, Harry Graham, Kieron Stokoe, Connor O’Neill, Callum Charlton and Dale Wells are added to the squad and they hope to include new signings Luke Taylor, Gary Brooks and Jack Murphy.

However, David Scott is out for the season with a broken ankle and Marc Moon faces a long lay-off with a broken elbow, but Aaron Wood is expected back after being unavailable last weekend.

Red Star Reserves are still without Paul Henderson (thigh injury), while Andy Johnston has been called up to the first team.

Sunderland West End are at home to Windscale, who have goalkeeper James Dolan missing with an ankle injury.

The Cumbrians have defenders Steve Walker and Ryan Fitzwilliam returning after missing last Saturday’s game, while they awaiting a fitness check on Reece Fretwell.

West End have a big squad to choose from, and the only injury concern is to Aiden King.

Manager Barry Cook said: “Hopefully we can carry on our good form from the previous weeks. We are expecting a hard game.

“I am delighted to have Anthony Nelson back on the management team and also Darren Liddle, who has come in as assistant.”

Coxhoe Athletic entertain second-top Redcar Athletic without Ross Morrow, David Gibson, Steven Fothergill and Mykel Summerson. Aidan Hart and Mitchell McKenna-Little are both doubtful.

Chris Baxter, Robert Thompson and Ben Priestley, though, return to the squad.

Redcar have Kristian Kamara, Daniel Ballantyne and Joel Callender, who all came on as substitutes in last week’s disappointing 2-2 draw against Annfield Plain, all pushing for starts.

Andy Jennings and Chris Atkinson, who both missed last week’s game due to family commitments, return. Joseph Blackburn and Lewis Wood may also be available, but captain Lance Skelton is suspended.

Boldon CA, in fifth place, entertain Hartlepool.

Boldon chairman Kevin Oliver said: “We will have a late fitness test for Aaron Burn before the game, but David Conroy is still missing due to an injury. Captain Jack Lawton is still out with an ankle injury, and Jack Young is missing due to holiday. “

The season is going as planned so far – we have a three-year plan and in the second year now.

“We are still in two cups and fifth in the league. We anticipate to finish around about 10th, but things are going as planned.”

Hartlepool have Rob Hammond and John Stephenson clear to play, while central defender Bradley Staunch has rejoined the club and Mattie Stokes is added to the squad

South Shields Reserves entertain runaway leaders Jarrow and secretary Philip Reay said: “Ewan Simpson will hopefully be back in contention for the local derby against Jarrow, following his injury month ago.

“He will have a fitness test before the game.”

Nathan Sinclair is awaiting a scan on an injury, so he is unavailable.

Reay added: “We face a very tough task as we host the league leaders. Both sides are on a good run of form at the moment, so we’re hoping to get something out of the game.”

Jarrow hope that Max Kirkham can join the squad. Boss Dave Bell said: “South Shields Reserves have done exceptionally well this season in the league and we know they are a very good side.

“We know we will have to be at our best, along with showing the same work rate that we have shown recently for this game.”

Leam Rangers face the long trip west to meet Cleator Moor Celtic, while Harton & Westoe visit fellow strugglers Darlington 1883 Reserves and Annfield Plain welcome Wolviston to Derwent Park.
