Sunderland to lose 'next Ivan Toney' as Championship club receive 'no offers' for Cats, Portsmouth and Charlton target
The transfer window is now officially open for Sunderland are their League One rivals.
And there has been plenty of news surrounding Lee Johnson’s Black Cats and their third-tier competitors over the past couple of days.
The Echo understands that Aiden McGeady is set to extend his stay at the Stadium of Light whilst Charlie Wyke is expected to leave.
Meanwhile, Sunderland have confirmed contract extensions for youngsters Anthony Patterson and Ellis Taylor.
And the Black Cats may have been handed a potential double transfer boost – if the latest rumours are true…
Here, though, we take you through some of the key Sunderland and League One stories from around the web that you may have missed today:
Update offered in Sunderland-linked Todd Kane
QPR have received ‘no offers’ for Todd Kane.
That’s according to West London Sport.
The right-back was linked with all of Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth and Sunderland last month.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that a move has been made to bring full-back Moses Odubajo to Loftus Road.
The arrival of the Sheffield Wednesday man could then open the door for fellow defender Kane to depart.
Charlie Wyke comparison made amidst Celtic interest
Charlie Wyke has been likened to Ivan Toney by Alex McLeish.
The striker has been linked with a move to Celtic with his deal at the Stadium of Light set to expire this summer.
“He’s scored his goals in a lot of divisions. We’ll have to wait and see if Charlie can dominate in the Scottish league as well as he has done in the lower divisions in England.
“That would be the challenge, scoring for Celtic every week he would be the darling of the crowd.
“As you know in Scotland, sometimes strikers find it hard when they come in to play every week and they get man-marked very robustly and tightly.
“On paper it’s a good one because Celtic were linked with (Ivan) Toney a couple of years ago from Peterborough, they didn’t get him, and look what he’s doing now.
“That was one they missed and if Wyke can get anywhere near Toney’s level, he’d be a good signing also and could be the next Toney.”
