Sunderland Sunday League: Lansdowne hit back to seal promotion joy

They had to do it the hard way, though.

Railway Club were 2-0 up after goals from Daniel Callaghan and Anthony Rogerson, but Tom Smith’s side battled back to earn their precious point, with Thomas Alderson and John Hope-Hindmarsh firing the goals to give their side Second Division status next season.

Dan Tough shone for Railway Club, with Marc Ruddock best for Lansdowne.

Penshaw CC all but relegated Mountain Daisy F&M Underdogs after their 5-2 away win.

The Underdogs need five wins from their last five games, and hope the teams immediately above them don’t pick up points from any of their remaining games – a tall order.

Chris Kershaw and Adam McQuillan scored for Daisy, bit Penshaw secured the win through goals from man of the match Liam Jordan, Jonathan Snelling, Joe Bignall, Peter McGhee and sub Sean Williams.

The Kings Arms recorded only their second win in the league and shocked Washington Colliery.

The already-relegated Kings Arms side have left it a bit too late to start beating decent teams. Rob Wilson grabbed the winner, with keeper Dan Wilson the star of the show in keeping a clean sheet.

Keith Burnett shone for Washington Colliery.

Micky Brown was in outstanding form for Ashbrooke Sports Club, and he fired a fine brace in a memorable 7-0 drubbing of second-placed Martin Telfer Carpets.

Nath Renton also scored a pair of headers and was denied a hat-trick when his penalty was saved by keeper David Peake.

Matty Teasdale showed him how to take a spot-kick later on, firing his effort high into the the net. David Dickinson struck his 20th goal of the season and made easy work of a decent Martin Telfer side, while Matty Johnson finished the scoring after notching on his debut.

Wayne Henderson shone for the Carpetmen against a very good Ashbrooke side.
