Sunderland Sunday League: Corlett to the four to set up perfect Pennywell day

Paul Corlett scored four goals, followed by a tasty effort from Michael Brunning. David Middleton was Prom’s top man.

The Cherry Tree surprised neutrals with a devastating 9-3 win over Hendon Athletic.

Adam Wasey scored on his Hendon debut and Shaun Conlon found the net on his return, while Bri Carter capped his man-of-the-match performance with a trademark 30-yard free-kick into the top corner.

But that was all for nothing as Cherry Tree made Hendon pay for their shambolic defending and fired nine goals past hapless keeper Chris Roach.

Carl Longstaff claimed a memorable double hat-trick, then star man Michael Wilson, Robbie Yoxall and Liam Middlemas put the game to bed .

The Stella went goal crazy away to the unfortunate AFC Wearside lads.

The game finished 14-0, and it could have been more.

Gavin Teasdale was man of the match after running the show and grabbing a hat-trick. Lewis Topping managed four, followed by Stephen Rutter, Kelvin Briggs, Kris Lawton, Lewis Monaghan (2) and Liam Alexander (2). Dan Brown shone for Wearside.

A poor start cost Mill View CIU dearly as The Victory Club romped to a 4-0 interval lead.

Steven Jackson, Simon Mountford, Adam Brown and star man Robert Calvert gave Victory Club the goals. Mill View perked up in the second half and replied through Sean Brook and Stephen Conlin, but Victory finished 4-2 winners.

Washington Colliery moved up the table with a 4-1 win over Railway Club.

Bryan Wood hit Railway’s solitary goal, but it came after Steven Young, Andy McIntyre, Johnathan Roberts and Jordan Stevens scored for Colliery. Gary Tyzack shone for Railway.

The Lakeside suffered another heavy defeat as New Town took advantage of their defensive woes to win 5-1.

Dan Warris, Andrew Laidler, Lewis Holland, Sean Collard and Mark Emmerson fired last home keeper Dale Atkinson, with Sean Reay starring.

Mark Barrass responded for Lakeside, with Jordan Pfendt man of the match.

Washington New Tavern beat Martin Telfer Carpets 2-0, with Martin Harrison and Craig Neal netting. Keeper Richard Corrigan and Dan Pearson were the star men.

Thorney Close Inn got their first Division One win after defeating Willow Pond 3-1.

Ryan Kennedy, Gary Barnfather and a Danny Makin effort gave Thorney the win, while Richie Bland replied. David Robinson starred for Thorney, Brid Thompson for Willow.

The Lansdowne enjoyed an impressive 5-3 victory at The Board Inn.

Ex-Board Inn player Adam Frame opened the scoring from the penalty spot, and a fine finish from Tommy “Ogga” Alderson made it 2-0 before ever-reliable Sam Wigham pulled one back.

A goal-of-the-season contender from Dean Afzal sparked Lansdowne in an end to end second half, with Lee Chapman’s free-kick and a Glen Hargrave strike making it five.

Wigham and Jack Middleton’s clinical finish rallied Board, whose star was Jordan Dagg. Adam McDermott impressed for Lansdowne

Ashbrooke Sports Club earned an easy 4-0 win over The Stumble Inn to go marching up the table.

Michael Brown bagged a double, followed by Jordan Ridley and the prolific John Hope-Hindmarsh. Matthew Teasdale starred, while keeper Ayden Cummings was Stumble’s top performer.

Victoria Gardens comfortably beat The Jolly Potters 6-2.

They were 4-0 up at one point thanks to braces from Kieran Moan and Martin Hope. Anthony Stubbs and Paul Webster replied, but further goals from David “Busta” Paul and a third from Hope made it six.

Liam Brown was Potters’ star man.

A single Carl Young goal was all it took to give Ryhope Top House a tight 1-0 win at The Royal Marine.

Keeper Marc Robison was in great form for Marine and was only beaten once. Chris Wright stood out in Top House’s goal.

It was hard to believe that the scoreline finished 0-0 given the striking prowess possessed by Redhouse Last Order and Oddies, but neither team could find the net.

Neil Middlemiss shone for Redhouse, with Alex Herring best for Oddies.
