Grigg has not played since mid-December after picking up a knee injury, while manager Lee Johnson has said the frontman could leave before the end of the month.

We asked fans on our Sunderland Echo SAFC Facebook page about the possibility of Grigg leaving on loan before next week’s transfer deadline.

Peter Hewett said: Just give him away, no one will pay money for him as he is damaged goods.

Shaun Sayers added: It’s not just his lack of goals, it’s his inability to make himself a nuisance even when he isn’t scoring. A striker can’t always be scoring but he has to make some sort of contribution

David McGee replied: Let him go. Quite simply it hasn't worked out for him here for whatever reason. Not scoring goals, not looking like scoring goals and doesn't look interested. Not what we need.

Ian Taggart commented: The only thing he is doing here is collecting a wage . Gotta get rid by any means

Ian Brewster agreed: As long as they’re going to pay half his wages, let him go. It won’t make a difference to us

Kev Brown posted: Only makes sense if we can get somebody better in this window and hopefully they're covering a massive chunk of his wages. Hopefully he bangs in the goals for them and we're able to get some money for him in the summer.

Peter Bambridge responded: Been a flop at Sunderland, would free up wages to bring in hopefully someone that finds the back of the net. Got me taxi outside waiting for him

Tom Cartwright answered: Might be good to let him go on loan might give him a chance to score some goals

Angela Dalzell said: If the boss is not going to use him let him go, however like a lot of players we let go he will probably bag a brace of goals in his first match
