The Black Cats are open to the youngster heading out on loan in a bid to aid his development, although the ongoing uncertainty over his contract may put paid to hopes of a temporary exit.

Kimpioka’s current deal expires in the summer and, with talks having reached an impasse, there seems to be no sign of a resolution soon. Sunderland, therefore, are wary of the interest a productive loan spell could attract.

But there is still the possibility that the Swedish striker could leave the Stadium of Light this month should a loan be sanctioned, with National League clubs able to sign loan players until a cut-off date in March. It’s understood that non-league would be the most likely move for Kimpioka at this time.

A permanent move could also transpire, with several windows remaining open.

Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Portugal and Russia are among the European nations whose windows close in February as opposed to January - but a permanent exit for Kimpioka looks unlikely at this time.

Speaking about Kimpioka last month, Phil Parkinson said: “What I’d like to do is have enough striker options where we can let him go on loan, because I think he’s at the stage where he needs to go and play in someone’s first team and show that he’s got that consistent level to be a first team player.

“Ideally, that’s what we’re going to do.”
