Third tier clubs now have a firm restart date of September 12 for the 2020/21 campaign, meaning the wheels can be set in motion on a number of fronts.

Hide AdWith a restart date to aim for, Sunderland can now finalise their pre-season plans – including when their players will return for pre-season.
While the first-team squad were placed on furlough leave during the break in action, they can be recalled at 48 hours notice meaning plans for a return to the Academy of Light can be fast-tracked.
And the Echo understands that Sunderland’s first-team squad have been asked to report for training on Wednesday, July 29.
A number of League One clubs have earmarked August 3 as their desired date to resume training, giving them six weeks to prepare for the new campaign.

Hide AdClubs will also have to arrange a number of pre-season friendlies ahead of the campaign. These will be played behind closed doors - as per the current government guidance – but it remains unclear who Sunderland will be allowed to face this summer.
There have been suggestions from some quarters that clubs will only be able to play fellow clubs whose players have been tested for COVID-19, which would rule-out friendlies with non-league sides. This is yet to be confirmed, though.
Sort out deals for Bailey Wright and other transfer targets
Also high on Phil Parkinson’s agenda will be finalising transfer deals, both incoming and outgoing.
A deal for Bailey Wright remains high on the agenda while Parkinson is chasing another six additions as a minimum this summer with the first-team squad thin on numbers at present.

Now a restart date is set and clubs can plan, expect more transfer activity in the coming weeks – not just at Sunderland, but around League One.
Clarify the contractual situation
While Tom Flanagan has now agreed a two-year deal, there are still some unresolved issues in this department.
The likes of Brandon Taylor and Benji Kimpioka are also yet to put pen to paper, and a key priority for Parkinson will be gaining clarity on whether their future lies on Wearside or elsewhere.
Press on with takeover talks

Hide AdWhile no resolution on this front is expected imminently – despite claims of fresh interest on Friday – talks will be continuing behind the scenes.
Now we know when football will resume and, crucially, when crowds may be able to return, potential buyers have some vital clarity.
This may help facilitate talks as Stewart Donald continues his attempts to sell.
