What Sunderland fans miss and are looking forward to when fans return to the Stadium of Light
It’s a year ago today since fans last attended a game at the Stadium of Light – when Sunderland drew 2-2 with Gillingham.
Hopefully those days will return soon and supporters will be allowed to cheer on their side in person, while returning to their regular matchday routines.
We’ve been asking fans what they miss most about the matchday experience, with many of you quick to get in touch and share your experiences.
On our Sunderland Echo SAFC Facebook page, Lorraine Montgomery said: Every solitary thing but especially meeting up with mates. No matter what the score you feel part of a massive family. Can’t wait
Pauline Philliskirk posted: The whole atmosphere
William Atkinson added: Hope when we finally do get all restrictions lifted that we get a full house at the SoL.
Ian Carr replied: Few pints and a bit craic
Steve Heathcote shared: A whole day of football with my boys, Russell Foster league in the morning followed by the match in the afternoon
Sue Stephenson Martin responded: Miss meeting my sister, the build up and everything about the day. Can't believe it's been a year
Michael Napier commented: Being in the pub with my mates, having a few beers before and after whatever the result
On Twitter @jimmyjesus666 tweeted: Everything, the whole day is an experience sometimes not great sometimes fantastic. It's just brilliant that we've got a very sensible owner now we can look to the future with optimism
@johngraham790 answered: Time with my dad. Celebrating a goal. The humour of some of those next to us.
@ColdwellAnn said: Don’t miss icy blasts around the concourse or the despair after a disappointing result, but I do miss the the live matchday atmosphere, the simple sight of my place of worship (SOL), shouting til I’m hoarse, and having a convivial drink before and after the game. So homesick
@Jean_Safc73 shared: My friend Christine, the atmosphere and of course the football whether it’s good or bad
@RichanBooth replied: My 400 round trip from Northampton,Drinks in the Roker Hotel
@Marky51Mark added: We travel up from Cambridge mostly we have to drive back straight after.
