It’s a year to the day since Sunderland ended their Wembley hoodoo to win the Papa John’s Trophy by beating Tranmere Rovers in the final – and a lot has changed since then.
The Black Cats won the match, which was played behind closed doors due to COVID-19 restrictions, 1-0 as Lynden Gooch scored the winner.
Several Sunderland players who played that day are no longer at the club, while former head coach Lee Johnson has also left Wearside.

5. LB: Callum McFadzean
Following his year at Sunderland, McFadzean had a short spell at Crewe, before joining Wrexham in the National League. The 30-year-old hasn’t featured in League Two since Wrexham’s promotion to the fourth tier. Photo: Stu Forster
