Sunderland were beaten in the League One play-off semi-finals against Lincoln last week – with attention now turning to next season’s rebuilding job and the summer transfer window.
Here are some of the latest SAFC news stories and transfer rumours.
Cats braced for Josh Hawkes interest
While Sunderland will be looking to strengthen in the transfer market, they may also have to fend off interest in some of their players.
Midfielder Josh Hawkes is yet to make a senior appearance for the Black Cats but has impressed for the under-23 team this campaign.
The 21-year-old moved to Wearside after leaving Hartlepool last summer and has scored 14 goals in Premier League 2, Division 2.
And according to TeamTalk, West Ham and Crystal Palace are leading the chase to sign the midfielder, while Leeds and Newcastle are also interested.
Free agent striker considering his options
A player who has previously been linked with Sunderland is Israeli striker Guy Melamed.
According to the Daily Record, both the Black Cats and League One rivals Ipswich are keen on the 28-year-old St Johnstone frontman.
Melamed, who will be out of contract this summer, was asked about his future following St Johnstone’s Scottish Cup Final win over Hibernian – when the striker was an unused substitute.
He said: ”I heard from my agent. He told me there is interest. “It's very flattering to me. I'll have to sit down with my agent and look at all the proposals.
"I will return home. I will be with my family, I will enjoy some of the time in the country (Israel) because I have not been there for many months.
“I will examine the proposals and decide what is the best place for me. "I do not rule out (Israel), but on the other hand my direction is to continue abroad."

The 17-year-old stopper is a second-year scholar at the Stadium of Light and has represented the Black Cats’ under-18s side this season.
