Sunderland were beaten 2-0 by Sheffield Wednesday in their final game of the season – but how did each player fare for Mike Dodds’ side.
The Black Cats fell a goal down in the 29th minute when Liam Palmer opened the scoring after an excellent pass from Barry Bannan. The visitors then doubled their advantage nine minutes later when Josh Windass converted Pol Valentin’s cross.
Here’s how Phil Smith rated the Sunderland players at the Stadium of Light:

9. Patrick Roberts - 4
Missed a big chance to halve the deficit when he blazed over from Alese’s cross from a matter of yards out. Still a long way short of his sharpest and was replaced at the break, though you could argue that he was a little unfortunate on that front given some of the other performances on the pitch. 4 Photo: Frank Reid

10. Jack Clarke - 6
Both of Wednesday’s goals came down his flank but he was by far Sunderland’s most threatening player going forward and was unlucky to hit the bar with a long-range shot in the first half. Received a standing ovation when subbed off late on - a possible farewell from the crowd. 6 Photo: Frank Reid

11. Adil Aouchiche - 5
Couldn’t really get into the first half with Sunderland poor again. Tried to quicken up the play when he could and drew a couple of decent saves from Beadle in the end. Club’s striker issues continue. 5 Photo: Frank Reid

12. Corry Evans (sub) - 6
Brought some welcome stability and composure to Sunderland’s midfield. 6 Photo: Frank Reid
