The Sunderland man was nominated for the October award after his long range strike against Southend United - shown below - helped clinch a valuable three points for the Black Cats.

Maguire, who joined the club in the summer after a spell at Bury, had already netted the September goal of the month for the third tier following a strike from distance against Burton Albion.

And it has today been confirmed that the wideman has pocketed back-to-back trophies after collecting a staggering 71% of the public vote.

Sunderland supporters have quickly taken Maguire to their hearts and have already christened the former Oxford United man as 'The King' following a string of whole-hearted displays.

This latest award only serves to emphasise the impact the Scot has had since moving to Wearside.

Barnsley's Mamadou Thiam and Gillingham's Tom Eaves were also nominated, but were brushed aside as Maguire claimed a comprehensive triumph following the public vote.

After confirming the Sunderland man as winner, lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: “No sooner had September’s Goal of the Month been announced, when Chris Maguire was at it again, latching on to a loose clearance and smashing a rising drive into the top corner.

“Maguire is becoming a real favourite on Wearside, both with manager Jack Ross and the Sunderland faithful.”

The full judging panel comprised Goodman; Sky Bet Sponsorship Executive Michael Holinski and EFL Senior Media Manager Rob Meaden.
