Hide AdThe Black Cats are thought to be one of several clubs interested in the former Leeds United forward after the 24-year-old became a free agent this summer.
The winger made 10 Championship appearances on loan at Sheffield Wednesday during the second half of this season. The Owls are keen to re-sign the Colombia international on a permanent deal with other second tier clubs said to be interested.
Sunderland Luton Town and Burnley have all been linked with a move for Poveda this summer. However, a report from our sister title The Sheffield Star states that the player is “in discussions” with former loan club Sheffield Wednesday.

“Alongside previously reported interest from a host of Championship clubs including Cardiff City, West Brom and Luton Town, The Star is now told an unnamed Ligue 1 club are also suitors of Poveda, The Star added.
It is thought that Poveda’s good relationship with Owls boss Rohl - who signed a new deal at the club recently - could well swing the deal in favour of Wednesday amid interest from elsewhere in the Championship.
