What would Tony Mowbray’s starting XI look like if it was based on Sunderland’s squad market values?
Sunderland have had numerous injury problems to deal with this season and currently find themselves without the strike pairing of Ross Stewart and Ellis Simms as both deal with respective fitness worries.
This means that the Black Cats have rarely had the luxury of a full squad to choose from this season - however that doesn’t seem to have impacted results on the pitch too much.
But what could Mowbray’s starting side look like if and when all of his key men are fit and available for selection?
To do this, here, courtesy of data provided by Transfermarkt, we take a look at what Mowbray’s starting Sunderland side would look like based on their market values.

5. RM: Amad Diallo (£9 million)
The Manchester United loanee is rated as Sunderland’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ by Transfermarkt and Mowbray will hope he can show the same kind of form at the Stadium of Light that grabbed the Red Devils’ attention when they opted to sign him in 2021.

6. CM: Edouard Michut (£2.7 million)
The former PSG man has yet to feature for the senior side but hopes are high that he can become an integral part of first-team matters when he gets up to speed and acclimatised to the English game.

7. CM: Patrick Roberts (£1.35 million)
Roberts is somewhat shoe-horned into this side but it would be a shame to not see him feature - especially considering the great start he has made to life as a Black Cats player.

8. CM: Alex Pritchard (£1.8 million)
Pritchard starred for Sunderland last term and has remained one of their key players in their return to the Championship.
