Johnson is hoping for some positive news on the injury front and defender Conor McLaughlin could return for the game at Home Park.

Massive blow for Jordan Willis

Black Cats defender Jordan Willis has undergone a further operation on his knee injury and will be sidelined for a further nine to 12 months.

The 22-year-old remains under contract at the Stadium of Light until June 2022 and the club say they are committed to supporting the defender throughout his rehabilitation process.

Manager Lee Johnson said: “First and foremost, we are here for Jordan on a human level – if he needs to reach out to anyone of us, we will help him as much as we possibly can. On a professional level, we are gutted because of what a good player he is and what he brings to the squad – on and off the pitch – in terms of personality and performance. We will support him in any way we can to get him back to his pomp as soon as possible.”

Cats hope for injury boost

Conor McLaughlin could return this weekend following a hernia injury.

Tom Flanagan making progress but the Plymouth game will probably come too soon for him.

What the table looks like

Here’s what the top of the League One table looks like after last night’s results.

Sunderland still aren’t guaranteed a play-off place but would be if they win one of their remaining games.

Peterborough could still be caught by Lincoln so haven’t quite sealed automatic promotion.

The latest transfer talk from the Stadium of Light

There’s been no shortage of rumours surrounding Sunderland players over recent days!

Here’s a look at the deals that have been mooted in recent days:

CHARLIE WYKE

Celtic are monitoring the situation of 30-goal Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke.

The attacker is out of contract this summer and has been previously linked with Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest, Cardiff City, Millwall and other Championship clubs.

But former Celtic man Mark Wilson has claimed that Celtic are also in the hunt for the former Bradford man.

JORDAN JONES

According to Football Insider, Rangers are set to offload Jordan Jones this summer.

The website states that Rangers are looking to cash in on the winger in the upcoming window,

Gers are said to be after an even higher price than they initially expected due to Jones’ decent form and could stand to net more than the £600,000 initially reported.

A ‘recruitment source’ has reportedly stated that Steven Gerrard is keen to let Jones leave in the summer but Sunderland’s chances of signing him ‘could hinge on promotion.’

This pair could be set for a busy summer!

Lee Johnson has spoken about the ‘huge’ appointment of head of player recruitment Stuart Harvey - and the initial discussions between the pair.
