Thomas Meunier's vast European experience compared to his new Sunderland team-mates

Sunderland will head into their Europa League campaign as novices as the Black Cats enter European competition for only the second time in their history and for the first time since 1973.

However, Regis Le Bris will be able to call upon players within his Black Cats squad that can boast a vast array of experience of competing in the Champions League, Conference League and Europa League. The signing of former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund defender Thomas Meunier will only add to that experience after the Belgium international put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light to become Sunderland’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

In total, Meunier has made 91 appearances in the qualifying rounds, group stage and knockout rounds of European competitions with his former clubs - and only one current Black Cats player possesses more experience of continental competition.
