From Yann M’Vila to Fabio Borini and Mart Poom to Shay Given, the Black Cats have certainly secured some brilliant loan signings in recent years.

And now we’ve launched a quest to find out who supporters believe to be THE best loanee of all time - through a knockout competition.

We’ve shortlisted 16 loanees based on fan suggestions from social media, and day-by-day we’ll be eliminating players until we’re left with just one - the best loan signing that Sunderland have ever made.

We’ll begin with four randomly-drawn groups of four, where the top two players will progress to the quarter finals.

From there on it’s a straight knockout competition, with your votes determining who progresses to the final and who is then crowned the winner.

We’ll be posting daily votes on our Twitter page, @sunechosafc, so head there to have your say on Sunderland’s best ever loan signing.
