There are senior players in need of some gametime, which they will likely get against Mansfield Town.
With Sunderland already through in the Papa John’s Trophy, it’s likely that the trip to Fleetwood on Tuesday is when we will then see a host of exciting youngsters given a chance to shine.
Here’s who is line for a big chance to impress..

9. OLIVER YOUNGER
Younger is yet to make senior debut after arriving from Burnley in the summer, but was on the bench for the aforementioned game at Swindon. Afterwards, Parkinson noted how the defender had impressing in both U23 and senior training. As such, he has jumped ahead of Brandon Taylor in the pecking order and so has a good chance of playing on Tuesday night at least. With Sunderland already through, it could be that Taylor also features at Fleetwood. Photo: Nick Taylor/Liverpool FC

10. DAN NEIL
Embleton's imminent return will make the immediate pathway to the senior team tougher for Neil, but he is still just 18 and time is firmly on his side. Embleton will need to gradually work his way up to full speed and that should mean some gametime for this talented attacking midfielder this week. Quality in the final third will be key to pressing his senior claims further. Photo: FRANK REID 2020

11. JOSH HAWKES
Hawkes was one of the players signed to strengthen the U23 team, but with the hope that he would push for first-team recognition over the course of the season. It is still early days in the campaign but thus far his form has been excellent, scoring goals and playing his part in some key wins. He is most suited to playing just off the main striker, but Benji Kimpioka's hamstring injury could well push him into contention on Tuesday night. Photo: FRANK REID 2020
