Sunderland were one of a number of sides to take a break this weekend due to international call-ups, but there were seven fixtures played across the division and some eye-catching results involving sides looking to challenge with the Black Cats at the top. Here, Phil Smith takes a look at the key winners and losers from the last couple of weeks, starting with the fifth matchday of the season, as Sunderland beat AFC Wimbledon 3-1….
21. 3. Ipswich Town (+1)
Decided to postpone their game this weekend due to international call-ups, after two more thumping wins that underlined their automatic promotion credentials. Shrewsbury looked like tricky opponents and though a red card left them with a mountain to climb, it was another impressive showing. They're creating plenty of chances for their front two and it's impossible not to be impressed. Photo: Stephen Pond
22. 2. Wycombe Wanderers (+4)
Joe Jacobson scored one of the best hat-tricks you will ever see, one from a free-kick and two from direct corners. Secured a quite brilliant 3-1 win over Lincoln City as their remarkable early season form continues. Is it sustainable? Perhaps not, but their squad genuinely looks strong on paper now, especially after the shock deadline day arrival of Rolando Aarons. Photo: Dan Istitene
23. 1. Coventry City (+1)
Seven points from three, and against some tricky opponents. Above all else, after plenty of personnel changes, there are real signs now that Mark Robins is beginning to find the attacking spark that made them such a good side to watch last season. Late signings in the window are beginning to make an impression, with Aston Villa loanee Callum O'Hare playing a key role in the brilliant comeback win against Blackpool. Photo: Morgan Harlow
