They posted: “May we thank Gary Bennett for bringing much needed milk supplies which were handed out to 13 families yesterday who were supported with food items by Sunderland Food Heroes in Silksworth.
“We are working together to ensure that supplies can be maintained for referred families and people in need.
“[Gary] Arrived with bags of clothes which we give out free of charge to homeless, families and individuals free of charge.

Our quiet hero, always lifts people’s spirits and puts a smile on the faces he meets. Lovely man, thanks Gary.”
Earlier this year, Bennett and fellow members of the Sunderland Former Players’ Association gave a £500 donation to the soup kitchen.
Sunderland first-team player Duncan Watmore and his family also provided a £1,000 donation.
