With injuries and suspensions severely reducing Phil Parkinson’s options at the back, it could be something of a makeshift line-up for the Black Cats at the County Ground.
But who could feature in the League One clash? We take a look at the Sunderland side likely to feature in Wiltshire and who could play where as Phil Parkinson is forced to get a bit creative:
5. RWB: Luke O'Nien
O'Nien has made the spot on the right flank his own under Phil Parkinson, and has started this season brightly too - meaning that the Sunderland boss may be reluctant to move him to centre back, despite his promising performance in that position against Carlisle. O'Nien's attacking output is a key part of the Black Cats' play, so moving him into the centre of defence would see that sacrificed, and that's something Parkinson will be wary of. Photo: Frank Reid
6. LWB: Lynden Gooch
We've seen Gooch briefly deployed as a wing-back before under Parkinson, and he may be asked to deputise in that role once again if Denver Hume isn't available for the clash. Photo: Frank Reid
7. CM: Max Power
While Josh Scowen returned to the fold at Charlton, Power's return to full fitness may see him given the nod at Swindon - with the Sunderland skipper set to be a key man in the coming weeks. Photo: Frank Reid
8. CM: Grant Leadbitter
Now one of the first names on the teamsheet, Leadbitter's composure and vision in midfield have proven key for Sunderland in recent weeks - and long may that continue. Photo: Frank Reid
