Sunderland's League One rivals Portsmouth confirm positive COVID-19 test after Hull City win
A number of League One clubs have seen COVID-19 outbreaks in recent weeks – with Sunderland, Peterborough and Bristol Rovers all seeing fixtures postponed.
And Pompey are the latest club to confirm a positive case in their ranks.
The club say that defender Jack Whatmough displayed symptoms prior to the game at Hull City – a game in which he did not feature as Pompey won 2-0.
A Portsmouth club statement said: “Portsmouth Football Club can confirm that Jack Whatmough has tested positive for Covid-19.
“The defender was feeling ill on the morning of Friday night’s win at Hull and is self-isolating in accordance with government guidelines.
“The club will now implement our internal Covid procedures, although there are no other members of the squad currently displaying symptoms.
“We would like to wish Jack a quick recovery and urge everyone to continue following government advice to help limit the spread of the virus.”
