Sunderland made it back-to-back Championship wins and clean sheets with a 1-0 win over West Brom.
Trai Hume’s first-half free kick made the difference and though the hosts dominated possession, they struggled to carve open a resilient Black Cats side. Here’s how Phil Smith rated the Sunderland players after a win that all but secured their place in the top six...

9. Romaine Mundle
Didn’t see a lot of the ball but went very close with an excellent effort from the edge of the area that dipped just wide of the far post. Went off with an apparent muscle injury moments later, which is a huge concern moving forward. 6 | James Copley

10. Patrick Roberts
Didn’t get much chance to really drive with the ball as West Brom dominated possession. Worked hard and made a couple of important blocks. 6 | James Copley

11. Wilson Isidor
Drew one decent save from Wildsmith late on. Got through a lot of running but didn’t impact the game much with West Brom dominating possession. 5 | Jame Copley

12. Eliezer Mayenda
Didn’t see a lot of the ball on the left wing but was very efficient with it when he did, including winning the free kick from which Hume scored. 7 | James Copley
