Sunderland will be looking to strengthen during this summer’s transfer window – and may revisit some deals they’ve explored in the past.
The Black Cats have predominantly signed younger players in recent years, yet may have to tweak their model to add more experience to the squad. Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman will be hoping the club can find the right balance, yet some of Sunderland’s former targets may no longer be available.

5. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi (Crystal Palace) - Could revisit
After an impressive loan spell at Charlton in League One, the 21-year-old winger was linked with multiple Championship clubs last summer. Palace opted to keep Rak-Sakyi at Selhurst Park, yet he missed a large part of the 2023/24 season with an injury, making just six league appearances. 6. Benjamin Rollheiser (Benfica) - Probably won’t
Sunderland were said to be eyeing an ambitious loan move to sign the 24-year-old from Argentine side Estudiantes LP last summer. Rollheiser then joined Portuguese giants Benfica on loan in January, with a clause to make the deal permanent. Photo: Daniel Jayo
7. Divin Mubama (West Ham) - Could revisit
Mubama’s contract is set to expire at West Ham this summer, after the 19-year-old was offered a new deal. It has been claimed Sunderland are the frontrunners to sign him, yet it’s unclear where he is placed in the Black Cats’ list of targets. Photo: Sebastian Widmann
8. Kieffer Moore (Bournemouth) - Probably won’t
Despite interest from Sunderland in January, the Welsh international joined Ipswich on loan, where he scored seven goals in 18 Championship appearances. The Tractor Boys will therefore have a good chance to sign the 31-year-old permanently if they opt to pursue a move. Photo: George Wood
