Sunderland's most valuable player after £155m summer transfer window spend
Who is Sunderland's most valuable player as the Black Cats consider adding to their squad during the January transfer window?
Sunderland are enjoying the benefits of an outstanding summer transfer window as they look to build on what has been an exciting first half of the Premier League season.
The Stadium of Light hierarchy authorised an ambitious recruitment drive in the aftermath of the Championship play-off final win against Sheffield United as the club’s transfer record was broken twice with weeks of their Wembley triumph. A £20m permanent deal for loan star Enzo Le Fee set a new high before the Black Cats went one further by securing the services of Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra in a £30m agreement after seeing off rival interest from several other clubs.
The spending was far from over and perhaps the most surprising deal came when Sunderland persuaded former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka to return to the Premier League after agreeing a deal with Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen. The new faces continued to arrive right up until transfer deadline day as the likes of Brian Brobbey, Bertrand Traore and Lutsharel Geertruida were all secured as the clock ticked down.
Results have been largely positive as Regis Le Bris’ new-look side have produced a number of outstanding performances against the very best the Premier League can offer. Wins over the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle United sit alongside hard-earned draws with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City and mean the Black Cats are firmly in contention for a European spot as they embark on the second half of their first season back in the top tier of English football.
A whole host of players have already proven their worth following their summer arrival - but who is the highest valued amongst them? We take a look at who is rated as Sunderland’s most valuable player according to the transfer experts at TransferMarkt.
