Régis Le Bris: Why Sunderland's Fulham win underlined our key summer transfer message
Sunderland got their first win of the campaign on the board against Fulham at the Stadium of Light
Régis Le Bris says Sunderland's win over Fulham showed the squad is in a good place as they try and make some final additions in the closing stages of the transfer window.
Sunderland are working hard to strengthen and would like to sign a forward and a defender at the very least, with Igor Paixao and Kevin Danso two key targets. However, Le Bris has stressed that Sunderland's stability and success in retaining key players would be their strength last season and said a tough but vital win over Alvaro Arbeloa's side underlined it.
“We will see what happens," Le Bris said.
"The most important thing is what we saw this afternoon – the core of the group is very good. The players are all in. You can’t play at that level if you are not all in and so well-connected with the project at the club. I trust and have confidence in the energy of the squad. After that, if we can add one or two signings to the group, that will help the squad, then we will do it.”

RLB’s verdict on Sunderland’s first-half performance against Fulham
Sunderland had laboured a touch in the first half here, with Fulham following Ipswich in largely allowing Le Bris's side to have the ball rather than press them aggressively.
While Le Bris admitted his side were lacking creativity, he insists they are improving and that he is happy with the direction of the side.
"I would like teams to underestimate Sunderland again because that is much better to fuel our energy," he said.
"But The Premier League is demanding, really well-organised tactically, and the teams and managers are really smart. We have to rise our level, and I think we are getting better progressively. The flexibility of our mid-block is getting better, and we were brave on the high press. Then, it is a question of how do you break a deep block, a well-organised block? It is a problem for everyone, not just us. I don’t think it was too bad, it is just a question of balance. You want to take risks, but at the same time, stay organised and pick the right moment to break forward and shoot or pick a cross."
