Florent Ghisolfi issues major Chemsdine Talbi transfer update with decision made on Sunderland future

Sunderland are back in action against Hull City on Tuesday night

Florent Ghisolfi has confirmed that Chemsdine Talbi will not be leaving Sunderland.

Talbi was a shock absentee from the club’s Europa League squad last week, with it subsequently emerging that he had transfer interest from windows that were still open. Talbi had strong interest from Saudia Arabia but speaking ahead of the Carabao Cup third round clash with Hull City, Ghisolfi ruled out a move.

The 21-year-old will play against Hull City in the cup clash and though Ghisolfi said it was a ‘painful’ decision to leave him out of the Europa League squad, he believes it was the right one at the time.

“Chemsdine will stay with us 100%, and tonight he will play,” Ghisolfi said.

“Of course, he had interest, and we had some conversations with very good clubs. That's why he was not in the Europa League list, because we had to make choices. Because we were in conversations, if we put him on the list and after that he was left, we could lose this slot for eight games.

“So it was painful because we don't have a lot of club-trained players. So yeah, that's why we took this decision. But at the end, he will stay with us, and we are very happy because I think we all know the potential that Chemsdine has, and also the versatility: he can play on the left, can play on the right, and can play also behind the striker.”

Talbi could be registered for the knockout stages of the Europa League if Sunderland get there.

Ghisolfi said all parties were ultimately happy with the outcome: “At the end, when you have a transfer, you need three signatures.

“So we were all speaking what is the best for the boy first, what is the best if Sunderland can be happy with this transfer. And at the end, if he stays, it's because Sunderland and Chemsdine wants to continue together.”
