Early Sunderland injury update emerges ahead of Lech Poznan and Leeds United clashes

Sunderland are back in competitive action when they face Lech Poznan on Thursday

Brian Brobbey trained with the Sunderland squad ahead of their Europa League clash with Lech Poznan on Thursday evening.

The Black Cats held an open training session at the Academy of Light before the flight to Poland and Brobbey was involved alongside Habib Diarra, who made his keenly-awaited return from a hamstring injury off the bench in the second half of the defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

Wilson Isidor and Thomas Meunier both appear to be making good progress in their return from their respective injury issues, though both were doing their own individual work on Wednesday morning rather than taking part in the full session.

The only unexpected absentee was Omar Alderete, who was not present at the session. Kevin Danso did train and could be involved on Thursday evening as his one-game suspension for his red card at Bournemouth will be served this Sunday when the Black Cats welcome Leeds United to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League.

Head coach Régis Le Bris is set to offer a full injury update at his pre-match press conference in Poznan on Wednesday evening.

Speaking after the defeat to Bournemouth, Le Bris said Sunderland would continue to be cautious with Brobbey.

“We decided to not rush the process. He [Brobbey] is in a good place. He has trained with the squad all week now, but after a hamstring injury it is still important to stay cautious. We have delayed the game time a little bit, but probably next week we will see him if everything is going right.

Sunderland's squad will once again be supplemented by a handful of academy players, with Timur Tutierov again training with the group and in line to start up front in Poland. Versatile full back Jenson Jones was also training with the group, as well as midfielders Jack Whittaker and Tom Proctor.

Chemsdine Talbi and Juan Riquelme were also training though they are not eligible for selection due to UEFA's homegrown player squad restrictions.
