Sunderland secured their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 1-0 win over Hull City at the Stadium of Light.
Chemsdine Talbi’s stunning goal in the second half proved the difference, on a night when Regis Le Bris made 11 changes and handed out two full debuts. Here’s how we rated all of the Black Cats involved on the night...

1. GK - Melker Ellborg
Almost caught early on when he raced off his line to meet a through ball and didn’t get there, but the chip dropped wide. Steady there after, got the job done from set pieces and made one decent stop from a Thomas free kick. 6 | AFP via Getty Images

2. RB - Trai Hume
Caught out under a pass early on but after that didn’t put a foot wrong. Looked sharp and did well when asked to move across to left back. 7 | Getty Images

3. CB - Luke O'Nien
Hull felt he fouled Vaz in the box early on - it would have been harsh. Moved the ball crisply throughout and was there to snuff out dangerous attacks. Got the job done for his team. 6 | AFP via Getty Images

4. CB - Omar Alderete
Had a very quiet game but mostly in a good way. Lost one duel in the box that almost led to an opening but otherwise in control and calm on the ball. Very valuable runout. 6 | Sunderland's Omar Alderete. Photo by Chris Fryatt.
