Sunderland 'open talks' over move for Wolves defender amid interest from Brighton and Brentford
Sunderland are reported to have ‘opened negotiations’ with Wolves over the sale of defender Dion Sanderson.
Sanderson has been a star performer under Lee Johnson with the Black Cats pushing for automatic promotion.
Indeed Johnson has recently described the 21-year-old defender as 'an absolute Rolls Royce of a player'.
His performances have attracted interest from Brighton and Brentford, with the defender rated around the £2million mark.
The Daily Mail report: “Sunderland hope their status, plus the relationship Sanderson enjoys with Johnson, means they will be at the forefront of any decision the youngster makes but his rapid improvement as a centre-back in what is a demanding league means there is plenty of competition.”
Sunderland are chasing automatic promotion and face Joey Barton’s Bristol Rovers away on Saturday in League One.
Sunderland drew 1-1 with fellow promotion rivals Lincoln City last weekend at the Stadium of Light ahead of another crunch weekend.
