Henderson proud to collect award

Former Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson says he’s immensely proud to have collected the Team of the Year award at last night’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

The Liverpool captain tweeted: “I'm immensely proud to collect the Team of the Year award on behalf of our remarkable group of players and staff. Also, a huge congratulations to the boss for winning Coach of the Year.

“On a personal level, I'd like to say thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for me - I’m very humbled by it. My congratulations to @LewisHamilton, he's a deserved winner.”

No plans to postpone the season

Finally, the EFL have said there are no plans to postpone the League One season despite Covid-19 outbreaks at five clubs.

Sunderland, Bristol Rovers, Peterborough, Portsmouth and Ipswich have all returned positive tests in the last week, leading to some suggestions the campaign may be suspended.

However, it’s believed games which can go ahead will continue to be played under the Government guidelines.

Sunderland won’t play again until December 29 at the earliest when Lee Johnson’s side are set to travel to Accrington Stanley.

The Black Cats dropped to 11th in League One after the weekend’s results.
