Competition - Sunderland Women v Newcastle United Women: Chance to win 4 tickets for derby clash

Competition to win tickets for Sunderland Women v Newcastle United Women.

Sunderland Women host Newcastle United Women next month in the latest derby clash between the two clubs - and we have teamed up with SAFC for a ticket competition.

Sunderland AFC Women take on visitors Newcastle United in the women’s Wear-Tyne derby on November 15th at the Stadium of Light and, while matches between the two teams are always competitive affairs, the first league meeting between them this season comes with added excitement. Both sides are currently unbeaten in the league this season, and occupy 1st and 2nd place in the WSL2. With only one automatic promotion space up for grabs, a win for either side would put them in pole position.

An SAFC statement read: “Sunderland AFC is giving one lucky reader the chance to win 4 tickets to this fixture. Head over to https://share-eu1.hsforms.com/1s4sMMRQYT8C_VrsifTL8qQ2et7ss to enter.

“With the derby taking place during the men’s international break, and with tickets starting at just £2 for U18s and £8 for adults, there’s never been a better time to get behind the Lasses.

“The two sides recently met in the Subway Player’s Cup at Gateshead International Stadium, where SAFC beat Newcastle United with a 1-0 result, thanks to a goal from Katie Kitching and a spectacular penalty save from Noa Schumacher.

“They will certainly be looking for a repeat result on home soil in November. To buy tickets now, visit the SAFC website. Adults: £8 | Over 65s and Students: £6 | U18: £2.”

Entries will close at 5pm on Sunday, November 1. Winners will receive their tickets by Saturday 7 November.

On Sunday, Sunderland Women’s head coach Mel Reay praised the progress her side and the club as a whole has made since last season following an away win at bitter rivals Newcastle United in the Subway Players Cup.

A Katie Kitching finish in the opening stages of the second half was enough for the Black Cats to earn their first cup win of the season and a first win over Newcastle since their promotion to the second tier in 2024. In the four prior meetings, Newcastle had walked away the victors on three occasions as well as scoring late to rescue a point at the Stadium of Light in March.

This derby day victory following the season’s first international break underlines a magnificent start to Reay’s 10th season in charge as head coach, and Reay was mightily impressed with the performance following nine changes from Sunderland’s last league game.
