Sunderland linked with £93m triple transfer deal as Florent Ghisolfi faces Newcastle United competition
Sunderland have been linked with Geny Catamo, Gessime Yassine and Ismaila Sarr ahead of January, with Newcastle United reportedly monitoring two of the three
Sunderland continue to be linked with attacking reinforcements ahead of January, with Geny Catamo, Gessime Yassine and Ismaila Sarr among the names reportedly attracting attention.
Reports suggest the Black Cats could revisit their interest in Sporting winger Catamo, while they have also been credited with monitoring Strasbourg prospect Yassine and Crystal Palace forward Sarr.
Sunderland retain Geny Catamo interest
Catamo appears to remain on Sunderland’s radar after their attempts to secure a deal during the summer. According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, via Sport Witness, Sunderland offered an initial fee worth approximately £25.2million, with a further £8.4million in potential add-ons. Sporting, however, wanted the full £33.6million guaranteed.
The report claims Sunderland remain interested in the 25-year-old and could return in January, despite his contract running until 2029 and discussions over an extension. Sunderland were reportedly prepared to offer Catamo five times his Sporting salary, with that proposed package said to remain available. Whether they would meet Sporting’s demands over the transfer fee is another matter. The distinction between the guaranteed payment and performance-related bonuses proved significant in the summer. Any renewed approach would require the clubs to find agreement over the structure as well as the overall price.
Chelsea plan emerges amid Gessime Yassine links
Elsewhere, Sunderland are reportedly among several Premier League clubs following Yassine’s progress at Strasbourg. TEAMtalk claims Brighton, Newcastle United, Brentford, Everton and Nottingham Forest have also been watching the 20-year-old, who can operate on either wing.

However, the report suggests Chelsea are already viewed as his likely long-term destination through the clubs’ shared BlueCo ownership. The timing of any move remains unclear, and interest from elsewhere should not be confused with an agreed transfer.
There is no confirmed Strasbourg asking price in that report. Transfermarkt’s June valuation placed Yassine at approximately £10.1million, although that is a dated market estimate rather than a figure his club have indicated they would accept.
Ismaila Sarr weighs up Crystal Palace future
Sarr, meanwhile, is reportedly considering a contract extension at Crystal Palace amid interest from Sunderland, Newcastle and Manchester United. According to TEAMtalk, the Senegal international has yet to commit to the proposed deal while assessing his options. Galatasaray were interested during the summer, but Palace were unwilling to sanction his departure.
A separate TEAMtalk report in August claimed Palace wanted more than £50million to consider selling the 28-year-old. That figure reflects their reported summer position, with no revised January asking price established. Nevertheless, it indicates the potential expense involved should Sunderland choose to turn their reported interest into a formal approach.
