Broadhead returned to Everton earlier this week following his loan move at Wigan Athletic being cut short after it was revealed by The Echo that the striker was seeking a permanent move.

The Welshman netted 13 times in 27 appearances in all competitions for Sunderland in League One last season as the club were finally promoted to the Championship.

Broadhead was keen on a move back to the Stadium of Light should, and although Sunderland were aware of their former loanee’s situation, it looks likely they have moved on to other targets. That left Broadhead free to join Ipswich Town in League One.

But what have Sunderland fans said about Broadhead’s £1.5million move to Ipswich Town and do they think the Black Cats have missed a trick? Here, we take a look:

@DJB_1976: “No chance at £1.5m with his injury record. He's not played a full match this season so far has he?”

@octa2342: “For 1.5m I'd have taken him... but as a third striker. Even if we get Simms back, or another loan, that leaves us with 2 strikers in the squad... most teams have at least 4 on their books.”

@StephenStubbs5: “His lack of ambition is the thing that puts me off the most, 24 and hasn’t played 100 games of professional football. Could’ve been a very important player for us if he wasn’t afraid of competition. I’m sure he will do well in League One though.”

@stephen79016425: “No. Honestly don't understand the fascination in Broadhead...”

@happy_layabout: “We should be looking to exit the window with three strikers (at least two perm). Given how hard it is to sign strikers in Jan, I'm surprised we didn’t go for NB. He's got quality and is also well-known to us. Trust the recruitment process and look forward to step up from NB.”

@gmuckles: “I think he has ongoing injury problems. He has played 22 games this season, but averaged less than 50 mins per game. He doesn't fit the model. Quality player though.”
