‘We are disappointed’ - Sunderland fan group hit out at lack of action over ticket issues

RAWA express concern over unresolved ticketing issues, poor communication and lack of response from Sunderland

Sunderland supporters’ group Red and White Army (RAWA) has issued a fresh statement expressing concern over the club’s handling of ongoing ticketing issues, citing a lack of communication and unresolved problems affecting long-standing fans.

The group had previously urged the club to pause the release of unrenewed season tickets amid growing frustration among supporters. However, RAWA say that request was not acted upon, with sales proceeding despite what they describe as a significant number of outstanding cases.

In a statement released on social media, RAWA said: “Further to our previous statements over the past few days regarding the ongoing ticketing issues being reported by supporters, and our request to the club for a pause of the release of unrenewed season tickets, we are disappointed that the sale proceeded despite the number of unresolved problems.

“Our suggestion was intended to support a smoother process and to recognise the loyalty and individual circumstances of those experiencing ticketing difficulties. We are also concerned that our request did not receive a final response. Unfortunately, this reflects a broader pattern we have experienced in recent weeks when attempting to represent supporters’ views to the Club.

“In recent days, we have heard from a significant number of long-standing season ticket holders who have encountered extremely poor customer service. Many of these supporters have held tickets for years and have consistently backed the club through its most difficult periods. It is troubling to hear that they now feel overlooked, particularly when seeking to move seats. We sincerely hope that the club will now re-engage constructively with RAWA on the matters raised so that the supporters affected by these issues can reach a fair and satisfactory resolution.”

The latest statement adds to mounting scrutiny around Sunderland’s ticketing operations following promotion to the Premier League, with a number of supporters sharing detailed accounts of difficulties around renewals, seat moves and pricing structures.

RAWA’s intervention highlights growing concern that these are not isolated incidents, but part of a wider issue affecting a cross-section of the fanbase, particularly long-standing season ticket holders. The Echo approached Sunderland AFC for comment on the concerns raised this week, but the club declined to respond.
