Sunderland duo Luke O'Nien and Lee Johnson snubbed for EFL awards in favour of Gillingham duo
Sunderland duo Lee Johnson and Luke O’Nien have missed out on EFL awards for the month of March.
O’Nien was shortlisted for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month Award alongside Gillingham’s Vadaine Oliver, Sammie Szmodics of Peterborough United and Blackpool man Jerry Yates.
And Johnson had been nominated for the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month Award alongside former Black Cats boss Simon Grayson, who is now at Fleetwood Town.
But despite Johnson and O’Nien having bagged a first Wembley triumph in 48 years in March and collected 16 points from six unbeaten games, both missed out on their respective awards.
Gillingham manager Evans has been named the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month for March after a haul of 17 points and 16 goals from eight games.
And O’Nien missed out on winning the monthly ward to Gillingham striker Oliver, who has been named the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for March
