With the dust settled on Sunderland Under-21s’ Premier League International Cup outing against Borussia Dortmund II at the Stadium of Light, attention now turns to the individual performances on the night.
Graeme Murty handed valuable minutes to a blend of youth and experience, with first-team players Lutsharel Geertruida, Luke O’Nien, Chris Rigg and Dennis Cirkin all involved as they continued their work to stay sharp.
Sunderland lost 3-1 to Dortmund II on the night after some sloppy play from the back, which capped off a disappointing evening for the young Black Cats on home soil. Here is how each player rated following the final whistle:

9. Jenson Jones
The ever-growing versatile Jenson Jones started on the right-hand side of Sunderland's attack. Usually plays at full-back or sometimes in midfield. In the second half, Jenson Jones moved to right-back. Didn't do much wrong on a tough evening for Sunderland and played a nice flick for his side's only goal of the evening. 6 | Chris Fryatt

10. Chris Rigg
Chris Rigg played in the number 10 position and pressed well from the front. Came close to opening the score after nine minutes. Should have equalised just after half-time, rounding the goalkeeper only to see his shot blocked. Arguably Sunderland's brightest attacker, but he should have taken one of his chances. 6 | Getty Images

11. Finn Geragusian
Finn Geragusian forced several mistakes from defenders with sheer hard work and brute force early on, but gave away a sloppy penalty with a mistimed tackle for Dortmund to take the lead. Worked really hard, but it was a poor evening for the talented forward. He will learn from this experience and is still a fantastic prospect. 5 | Finn Geragusian

12. Rhys Walsh
Rhys Walsh came on midway through the first half for the injured Harrison Jones and injected a little bit of urgency to Sunderland's play. Set up Sunderland's goal with a nice ball in from the right. 6 | Rhys Walsh
