Régis Le Bris and Noah Sadiki reacts to Habib Diarra's late miss in Aston Villa defeat

Sunderland came close to snatching a remarkable win at Aston Villa but then lost the game in stoppage time

Régis Le Bris says Habib Diarra will learn from his pivotal late miss in Sunderland's 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

Sunderland had launched an unlikely comeback at Villa Park to bring the score back to 3-3 when Diarra ran through on goal in stoppage time, but his attempted chip was saved well by goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez. Villa scored just moments later when Tammy Abraham converted a cross from Lucas Digne, securing the three points for the hosts.

Le Bris said the chip 'probably wasn't the right decision' and that like his team, Diarra would learn from an ultimately chastening defeat to the side currently fourth in the Premier League.

"We will have a conversation, because we always talk during the week after a game to understand what happened, his feeling, my feeling, and we can compare to go further," Le Bris said.

"So this situation will be important, obviously, because it's a key moment, and he had the opportunity, it was in the right timing to run behind, but he didn't probably make the right decision at the end, and the goalkeeper is a good goalkeeper as well. So we will learn, I repeat, from this experience."

Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki said it was important to note that Diarra had played well through the game, having had a part to play in Chris Rigg's opener that initially brought Sunderland level.

"He knows it's a mistake, he's old enough to know that but I think we can't throw his game away," Sadiki said.

"He played a fantastic game today and he gave it his all. Everybody's going to think about the mistake and he's going to keep it, but you can't throw his game away."
