The Australian international was linked with a loan move to the Stadium of Light on Wednesday, with reports suggesting that Phil Parkinson had offered to pay the centre back’s wages in full in a bid to lure him to Wearside.

But Sunderland are not the only potential suitors for Wright, with Bristol City boss Lee Johnson confirming that ‘five or six clubs’ – some of whom are believed to be some of Sunderland’s closest rivals in League One – are also eyeing a deal.

And Johnson placed the interested sides on red alert having hinted that a move could materialise this month, after the Sun suggested that the 27-year-old was available during the winter window.

"I think Bailey is a fantastic human first and foremost, a very good football player and we have to decide what's right for him and all parties on that one,” he said, speaking to Bristol Live.

"I know there's been interest and five or six clubs have expressed an interest, and it's something that we have to sit down around the table and decide exactly what the future is for that one.”

Wright is out of contract at Ashton Gate this summer, and talks over a new deal are expected to begin soon if an exit cannot be finalised.

Meanwhile, former Sunderland winger Lewis Morgan has emerged as a surprise target for MLS newcomers Inter Miami.

The Daily Mail claim that Inter Miami – who are being backed by David Beckham and are set to enter the American league in the upcoming season – have asked Celtic for permission to speak with Morgan about a move to Fort Lauderdale.

The 23-year-old is believed to be keen on making a move which will see him secure regular first-team football, but is unsure whether a switch to the MLS would be a wise decision.
