Sunderland AFC transfer rumours: Attacker eyed by Barnsley, Cardiff, Stoke and Middlesbrough, former £14m Black Cats player wanted by Leeds United, Roy Keane targeting Celtic job
Sunderland defeated Tranmere Rovers in the final of the Papa John’s Trophy on Sunday.
The result put to bed a near 48-year Wembley hoodoo as Lee Johnson’s men won by a single Lynden Gooch goal.
As usual, however, there is still plenty of transfer talk and general gossip swirling around the web.
Here, we take you through the latest:
Pompey eyeing former Sunderland applicant as Kenny Jackett replacement
Portsmouth are reportedly lining up a move for former Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel as the club’s new manager.
That’s according to The Portsmouth News, who states that Pompey are looking to offer Stendel a role as caretaker manager until the end of the season.
Kenny Jackett was relieved of his duties on Sunday following losses to Sunderland in League One and Salford City in the Papa John’s Trophy final on Saturday.
However, it is said that the German is keen to be offered a long-term deal with the League One club at this stage.
The former Hearts boss applied for the Sunderland job last December after Phil Parkinson was sacked.
Sunderland, though, chose Lee Johnson to replace Parkinson with Stendal’s application proving unsuccessful.
Former Sunderland boss wants Celtic job after Neil Lennon exit
Former Sunderland and Ipswich boss Roy Keane reportedly wants the Celtic manager's job.
Keane finished his playing career at the club and according to The Sun is interested in the role vacated by Neil Lennon.
It has been said that the former Manchester United legend believes he can dethrone Steven Gerrard's Rangers next season, who were recently crowned champions.
Since departing Ipswich in 2011, Keane has worked as an assistant at the Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, and has also regularly appeared as a pundit.
Leeds United target former Sunderland defender
Leeds United are interested in a move for 30-year-old ex-Sunderland left-back Patrick van Aanholt, whose contract with Crystal Palace runs out in the summer.
The player started the season as first-choice left-back at Selhurst Park but Tyrick Mitchell’s emergence has seen him in and out of the team.
Palace are said to have paid Sunderland £9million rising to £14million for the Dutchman back in 2017.
The full-back appeared 95 times in all competitions between 2014 and 2017 at Sunderland.
Jordan Jones wanted by multiple clubs
Rangers have been contacted by a host of Championship about Sunderland loanee Jordan Jones.
TEAMtalk state that Barnsley, Cardiff, Stoke are all interested, whilst his hometown club Middlesbrough are also keen.
The former Kilmarnock winger man has been told by Rangers that he can move on this summer.
And the 26-year-old, who signed on a temporary deal under Lee Johnson in the January transfer window, is attracting plenty of interest.
Jones has made an impact on Wearside in recent weeks, having scored and assisted in Sunderland’s 2-0 win against Portsmouth last week.
However, the attacker missed the Papa John’s Trophy final win against Tranmere Rovers with an injury.
Jones has made four League One starts in nine appearances for the Black Cats so far this campaign.
