Sunderland set for EFL meeting over the 2020/21 season

Sunderland AFC and the rest of the member clubs will meet with EFL officials this week in a bid to set a provisional start date for the 2020/21 season.

The League One season was curtailed on June 9 but, as of yet, there have been no decisions made as to when the new campaign – previously scheduled for August – will begin.

For Sunderland and a host of other third tier clubs, this has made planning difficult with recruitment and pre-season plans put on the back-burner until a date is set.

But that date could finally come this week, with EFL clubs set to meet with the competition’s board members in a bid to settle on a provisional date for new season to kick-off.

Also on the agenda will be how many supporters will be allowed into grounds once games do begin, with the government’s latest social distancing guidelines understood to open the door to more supporters being able to attend games than was previously feared.

A rumoured Sunderland striker target has spoken out on interest in his services

Sunderland have been linked with a summer move for striker Lyndon Dykes - and he has spoken out on rumoured interest in his services.

During an interview with PZ Soccer, Dykes was quizzed on interest - specifically from Rangers - this summer.

And it’s fair to say the Australian, who is valued at around £2million by current club Livingston, didn’t exactly shoot down the rumours…

Here’s what he had to say:

I back myself 100%, and if I did happen to go anywhere I would do the best I can. I would learn off the players they have, the manager and once I got in that environment, I’d  put my head down and work hard to be that striker that the club needs.

Shrewsbury are working towards a September 12 restart

The last we were told it could be the last week in August or mid-September – there’s an international break the week of September 5 so we’re hearing through the grapevine, without anything official, that it could potentially be September 12. We’re trying to base it on that until anything is confirmed, but it’s what we’ve heard from a few places.
