Sunderland claimed a morale-boosting win over Port Vale in the Papa John’s Trophy on Tuesday night, but the focus has very quickly turned to Saturday's trip to AFC Wimbledon.

Black Cats boss Lee Johnson held his pre-match press conference via Zoom yesterday and there was some bad news on the injury front, with left-back Denver Hume set for up to two months on the sidelines with a hamstring issue he suffered in December.

That could force Sunderland into action in the transfer market, and names have already been linked with a switch to the Stadium of Light.

Johnson was also asked about the club’s takeover and contract situations, with many deals set to expire at the end of the season.
