The Black Cats have announced that they face Spennymoor Town in their first pre-season fixture, as preparations for the 2021-22 season begin.

The clash will see Sunderland travel to the Brewery Field to face the National League North outfit on Saturday, July 3 at 3pm.

The Black Cats are looking to build a squad capable of achieving League One promotion at the fourth time of asking after missing out on promotion to the Championship.

Pre-season details

Sunderland revealed their first pre-season opponents last week.

The Black Cats will face National League North side Spennymoor Town on Saturday, July 3 at 3pm as preparations for the 2021-22 season under Lee Johnson begin.

Sunderland have also stated that further details regarding pre-season friendlies will be released in due course.

Kevin Phillips has stated that Sunderland will be “fighting tooth and nail” to keep Elliot Embleton at the club this summer.

Phillips also added: “The other question is, does Embleton want to stay? I am sure Blackpool will be interested in signing him and he might be tempted to go and play in the Championship. I really hope they keep him though.” (Football Insider)
