Crewe boss opens up about transfer interest

Crewe boss David Artell has revealed they are yet to receive any bids for any of their players – and says a move to another League One club for Sunderland-linked Owen Dale would be a ‘sideways move’.

The 22-year-old forward is in demand this summer with a number of clubs already linked with him this summer including the Black Cats and Wycombe Wanderers, amid weekend reports they had made the first move with a ‘low offer’.

Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers have also been linked.

However, Crewe boss Artell has confirmed the club have not received any bids for their players, so far, this summer.

The latest transfer gossip surrounding Sunderland

Steve Howey delivers transfer verdict

Steve Howey has suggested that Sunderland will have already looked at players they want to sign this summer.

Speaking to Football League World, Howey said: “You’ve got to have the right players in the right positions. It starts with Johnson and his staff recruiting the right players.

“I’m pretty sure they would have, like all the managers, looked at players before the end of the season and thought about what happens if we go up or what happens if we stay down? And then we take it from there.”

Sunderland striker has received offers from multiple clubs

Charlie Wyke has received alternative offers amid links to Celtic, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough, according to reports.

The Sunderland striker is currently weighing up a contract extension at the Stadium of Light.

Wyke found the net 31 times in all competitions for the Wearsiders last term

Would you take any of these?

Here’s what Lee Johnson has said about Denver Hume - amid exit rumours...

Sunderland boss Lee Johnson believes Denver Hume is an ‘exciting project’ – with the full-back currently mulling over a contract offer.

The 22-year-old was one of four players offered fresh terms by the Black Cats following the conclusion of the 2020/21 season.

The academy graduate missed large chunks of the season through injury but caught the eye of Johnson behind the scenes and when he did take to the field.

However, Hume’s progress has not gone unnoticed and recent reports have suggested that Middlesbrough are once again keeping tabs on the left-sided defender.

But Johnson’s view is clear – he believes he and coaching staff can help the youngster improve even further.

Kyle Lafferty set for summer move after contract row

Former Sunderland striker Kyle Lafferty could be set for a surprise move to the Championship – after a public contract row with Kilmarnock.

The Northern Irish international spent the second half of the 2019/20 season with the Black Cats, only to see his time at the club cut short due to the curtailment of the League One season.

After a brief spell in Italy, Lafferty joined Kilmarnock and made an instant impact – scoring 13 times in 13 games in all competitions.

And while that record wasn’t enough to save Killie from dropping out of the Scottish top flight, it certainly earned the 33-year-old some admirers.

Indeed, recent reports have suggested that Championship sides Derby County, West Brom, Cardiff City and Birmingham City are all keen on Lafferty.

The striker is currently a free agent after seeing his terms at Rugby Park expire – but the situation has been shrouded in controversy.

Lafferty claimed that he had only learned he would be leaving the club after reading an article on their official website, having been interested in negotiating fresh terms.

Sunderland linked with defender swoop

Sunderland are one of a number of clubs linked with AFC Wimbledon defender Terell Thomas.

The Daily Mail claim that the Black Cats are monitoring the ex-Arsenal academy defender, who is set to depart Plough Lane on a free transfer this summer.

However, the 25-year-old is also thought to be a target for both Blackburn Rovers and Barnsley ahead of the new campaign.

Thomas missed a large chunk of last season through illness, but returned to the Wimbledon match day squad for the final day of the season.
