Sunderland AFC transfer news LIVE: Fallout from triple Deadline Day exit ahead of MK Dons clash
The transfer window has now closed – with Sunderland busy in terms of outgoings on Deadline Day.
Lee Johnson had already brought in four new faces during January and the final day of the trading period was mostly spent on finalising outgoings.

But there is no time to dwell on the window, with Sunderland back in action this evening in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Sunderland are back in action tonight
The Black Cats head to stadium:mk to face MK Dons in the quarter final of the Papa John’s Trophy.
Kick-off is 6:30pm and Lee Johnson could hand debuts to Jake Vokins, Jordan Jones and Ross Stewart.
This was a surprise move on Deadline Day!
Elliot Embleton penned a one-year extension to his deal on Wearside, which will see him stay at the Stadium of Light until 2022.
And he will now spend the rest of the season at League One rivals Blackpool.
Explaining the move, Kristjaan Speakman said:
Elliot requires a little more opportunity than we can provide at this moment and it’s an important period for him following the time he missed through injury. We have a clear plan for his progression and felt that under Neil, Blackpool was a great chance for him to gain more experience at this level in a different environment. We’ve taken the option on his contract for next season and we are all aligned on what he needs to do in the period leading up to the summer. He’s really excited about the challenge and we look forward to supporting him from afar.
Will Grigg also sealed a Deadline Day move
And here’s what the striker had to say after joining MK Dons on loan:
Danny Graham left the Stadium of Light yesterday
In the first bit of deadline day action for Sunderland - Danny Graham saw his contract torn up by mutual consent.
Explaining the decision, sporting director Kristjaan Speakman said:
We’ve had some really pragmatic conversations with Danny and there was a mutual understanding that this was the best avenue to take considering our activity in the transfer window and his desire to be involved more than he has been. He’s been a top professional and we wish him well for the future.
And welcome to our live blog!
