Phil Parkinson confirms interest in Argentinian striker
Reports have suggested that the Black Cats have launched a bid in the region of £500,000 for the striker, with that figure set to rise with add-ons and sell-on clauses.
Houston Dynamo are also understood to have made a bid for the forward, with a similar initial fee.
When quizzed on Bajamich, the Sunderland boss confirmed he was a player that the club had ‘looked at’.
"Like I said when we signed Arbenit, we have to spread our net wide to add the quality we need into the squad,” Parkinson said.
"He's a player we've obviously looked at and along with a number of targets, we'd like to add another couple into the group sooner rather than later.”
What does the Bajamich bid mean for Danny Graham? We asked Parkinson...
It all depends on the age of players coming in. Obviously if it's an U21 player, they don't count towards the salary cap in terms of the wages and also the squad number. It would be ideal if one of the places we were able to bring in was an U21 player, because then it would mean we could bring in an extra senior player into the squad.
Reports suggest a new takeover timeline has been set
The ongoing saga of the takeover of Sunderland AFC continues to dominate on Wearside, with fresh reports a deal could be concluded by the end of this month.
It was first reported in July that owner Stewart Donald had entered a period of exclusivity with a potential buyer – whose identity remains a mystery – ahead of a potential sale before the season begins.
The delay has been put down to the uncertainty around the coronavirus pandemic with various forecasting to accommodate different potential scenarios needing to be done but BBC Radio Newcastle’s Nick Barnes reports talks are ‘progressing well’ and a deal could be completed by the end of the month with the deal soon to be submitted to the EFL.
The club has refused to comment on takeover speculation in recent weeks.

Peterborough boss speaks out on Sunderland-linked midfielder
Darren Ferguson says he retains a ‘big interest’ in re-signing Bristol City midfielder Sammie Szmodcis - who has been linked with Sunderland this summer.
Speaking after Posh’s defeat to Cheltenham Town, Ferguson said:
There is nothing for me to say about Sammie. He was here and did well last season and everyone is aware he’s a player who would be of big interest to us if he was available, but nothing has changed as far as I’m concerned.
