Sunderland are preparing for this week’s Papa John’s Trophy semi-final against Lincoln City – while there’s plenty going on away from the pitch.

Black Cats boss Lee Johnson was full of praise for his players at the weekend following a comprehensive 4-1 win over Doncaster Rovers, with striker Charlie Wyke scoring all four goals.

Sunderland are also close to completing a deal which would see Kyril Louis-Dreyfus become the club’s majority sharholder, with the agreement going through EFL checks.

Louis-Dreyfus was at the Stadium of Light on Saturday watching from the stands and the club are hopeful things can be completed this week.

The Doncaster result moved Sunderland up to sixth in League One, although teams below them do have games in hand.
