Aiden O’Brien’s and Max Power’s second half headers were enough for the Black Cats in a cagey encounter, where Sunderland had to work hard to ensure they took maximum points.
Our Sunderland writer Phil Smith has dished out his marks from the match – scroll down and flick through the pages of our picture gallery to see how each player fared:
5. Lynden Gooch
Had a frustrating first half in which some excellent counter-attacking drives from deep were offset by too many times where he lost the ball. His move upfield for the second half changed the game, a terrific burst of energy that Fleetwood struggled to live with. 7 Photo: Frank Reid
6. Max Power
Great run for the second goal and though Cairns should have done better, his goal was a fair reward for his strong performances in midfield of late. 7 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
7. Grant Leadbitter
Dictated the play well and could have done with more movement in front of him in the first half. Stepped onto the game really well in the second. 6 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
8. Callum McFadzean
Had some frustration in possession to begin with and had some difficult moments in the second half, but played his part in a valuable clean sheet. 6 Photo: FRANK REID 2019
