Phil Smith's Sunderland AFC player ratings: One 7 but some mixed marks after disappointing Charlton defeat
A Josh Scowen own goal and a second half strike from Alex Gilbey saw the Addicks run out 2-1 victors at the Stadium of Light.
But who were the star performers, and who has work to do?
Our chief football writer Phil Smith has dished out his marks from the match – scroll down and flick through the pages of our picture gallery to see how each player fared:

1. Lee Burge
Charlton’s opener will likely go down as a Scowen own goal, and both Burge and the midfielder should have done better to clear Inniss’ header from danger. Beaten by Gilbey in the second half but did make a good stop from the midfielder shortly after. 5 Photo: FRANK REID 2020

2. Max Power
Improved when pushed forward for the latter stages. Defended OK but the very lively Jaiyesimi caused him problems on the counter attack. 5 Photo: FRANK REID 2020

3. Dion Sanderson
Brought the ball out from the back well at times and made some good covering runs, but it was an afternoon in which Sunderland struggled to cope with the lively Stockley in his target man role. 6 Photo: FRANK REID 2019

4. Luke O'Nien
Had a difficult afternoon against Stockley and wasn’t as dominant in the air as he has often has been of late. 5 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
