Sunderland are set to take Gateshead youngster Nelson Ogbewe on trial.

The news comes after the 18-year-old youngster scored against the Black Cats in a behind closed doors friendly earlier this week

The 18-year-old put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the Gateshead earlier this month.

He signed a two year deal with the National League North side.

Sunderland confirm appointment

Sunderland have appointed James Young to the club as its new Head of Analysis and Data.

Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman said to safc.com: “The use of data is becoming more prevalent in our industry and our interpretation and application of it will play an important role within our strategy.

“It was key to identify the right individual to lead a combined domain across performance analysis and data and we are delighted to welcome James to Sunderland AFC.

“This appointment represents a significant change to our operational processes, introducing a new way of working that will support all functions within the football department to ensure they become more effective and efficient.”

Sunderland ‘weighing up’ move for Tranmere Rovers player

Sunderland are among the clubs weighing up a move for Tranmere Rovers’ Otis Khan this summer.

That’s according to Football League World.

The 25-year-old moved to Prenton Park last summer after leaving Mansfield Town but has enjoyed an excellent season for the League Two club.

The website stated: “FLW understands that this has alerted a number of clubs including Preston North End, Portsmouth and the Black Cats to monitor his progress.”
